DAYTIME ACTIVITIES and DINNER CRUISE

San Francisco Highlights
The forty-nine square miles of San Francisco are a colorful tapestry of steep hills, picturesque houses, clanging cable cars, fishing boats, summer fog, Chinese pagodas, cosmopolitan cafés and breathtaking views. Five continents and three centuries blend together on forty-three hills, waiting to be discovered. Today you will see some of the legendary landmarks of “Everybody’s Favorite City.”
Your highlights tour will include many of the following:

  • The majestic Golden Gate Bridge spanning the entrance to the San Francisco Bay
  • "Painted Ladies" -- vividly restored Victorian homes
  • Cafés and boutiques of San Francisco’s most prestigious neighborhoods
  • The lush acres of Golden Gate Park
  • Bohemian Italian North Beach
  • Panoramic views from Twin Peaks
  • The awe-inspiring Pacific Ocean and the Cliff House perched high above the waves
  • Landmark skyscrapers of the Financial District such as the TransAmerica Pyramid and Bank of America's former World Headquarters
  • Bustling Fisherman's Wharf with its steaming crab cauldrons, colorful fishing boats, and seafood restaurants overlooking the Bay

A famous writer once declared, “Everyone should be allowed to love two cities -- his own, and San Francisco.” Today, you will discover for yourself why this is true!

Alcatraz: "The Rock"
Today, you will be “sentenced” to a “short term” on the notorious Alcatraz Island federal penitentiary. From the San Francisco waterfront, you will take a short ferry ride across the chilly waters of the Bay to “the Rock.” Here they will visit the cells once occupied by some of the nation’s most infamous criminals. On this austere wind and fog-ridden island, it is easy to see why few attempts were made to escape into the treacherous bay with its undertows and turbulent waters. An expertly created audio tour contains interviews with former prisoners and guards from “the Rock,” providing fascinating insight into prison life in the middle of the San Francisco Bay.

After your “release” from Alcatraz, you will return via ferry to the mainland where the motorcoach awaits.

Tonight’s cruise will give you the opportunity to experience one of the Bay’s spectacular sights: sunset over the Golden Gate Bridge. The evening sky will be awash in rosy pinks and fiery oranges; the lights of the legendary San Francisco skyline just beginning to reveal their iridescent jewels; the setting sun silhouetting the hills beyond the Marin Headlands.

The motorcoach will convey you to the San Francisco waterfront, where you will board the gleaming yacht. This elegant motor yacht offers something for everyone, from gourmet dining in the salon’s handsomely appointed with shining brass, gleaming teak and rich mahogany; to viewing the sparkling sights from the open-air sundeck; to dancing to live entertainment. The dining salons are fully enclosed and climate controlled to ensure year-round cruising comfort without concern for weather.

As the yacht glides such scenic splendors as the waterfront, the Bay Bridge, Angel Island and Alcatraz, you will enjoy a delicious dinner, prepared freshly onboard by talented chefs. Brass lantern centerpieces will create a candlelit glow. Throughout the cruise, the house band will perform their wide repertoire for your listening and dancing enjoyment, from light jazz to up-tempo dance music.
